Patto happy with the application of the squad at the Fullicks Stadium.
Gills First-Team Coach Mark Patterson said he and the management were pleased with what they saw during Saturday’s game at Folkestone.
Despite having the majority of chances in the first-half the visitors went in behind at the break thanks to a goal from Ade Yusuff as Folkestone hit Gillingham on the break.
However, Steve Lovell’s men kept going and got the equaliser they deserved with a quarter of an hour to play when Conor Wilkinson finished well from 18 yards. Brandon Hanlan was denied at the death courtesy of a magnificent save from Nick Shaw. The score ended 1-1.
Speaking after the game Patto said: “It was a worthwhile exercise; the temperatures made it difficult for players on both sides. It’s about minutes for the players, they all got 45 minutes and came out unscathed.
“We were pleased with what we have seen; we could move the ball quicker and better at times but we know that. They are things to work on but we covered good distances which is what we are looking for on the fitness side.
“We have to be more clever in getting in the right areas. They did what we asked them to do, they tried to do the right things and we are progressing and moving forward.
“We will assess things on Monday and then plan what we do on Tuesday.”
