Forward arrives at ME7.
Gillingham have clinched the signing of forward Scott Kashket ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The 26-year-old becomes the club’s fourth summer arrival and could feature ahead of this Saturday’s opening pre-season friendly against Folkestone Invicta at the BuildKent Stadium (3pm).
The former Leyton Orient, Wycombe Wanderers and Crewe Alexandra striker began his career playing futsal for Maccabi GB in the English National Futsal League.
He featured at the European Maccabiah Games in Vienna in 2009, winning a bronze medal before being snapped up by Spanish club Hércules in 2012. He was there a year before moving back to the UK, having been born in Essex, to Wingate and Finchley where he played for the club’s U21 side.
He began training with Leyton Orient’s youth team and signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2014, making his debut for the club later in the year as a second half substitute at home against Preston.
He netted his first goal a year later in a 2-2 draw with Oxford at Brisbane Road. In the summer of 2016 he was released by Orient and immediately signed for Wycombe, initially on a short-term deal which was later extended.
He scored 16 goals in 29 appearances in League Two during 2016/17, including a hat-trick away to Chesterfield. He was part of the Wycombe setup that won promotion to the Championship in 2019/20.
In August 2021 Kashket left the Chairboys and signed a one-year deal with Crewe. He was released earlier this summer and the Gills boss has now got his man as the second week of pre-season training gathers pace.
