Masterson | "We need a really big push"

Defender upbeat ahead of Walsall clash.

Conor Masterson firmly believes that Gillingham are one of the league's big hitters and he wants the team to back up their potential with league points.

The Gills have been banging on the door of the top seven of late and Masterson wants to make sure that they are not remembered as a 'nearly team'.

"We are nearly there," said the defender ahead of this weekend's clash with Walsall. "If we rack a few results together then we will be there. It is important that we keep positive and keep going.

"We really want to win at home in front of our fans. We are only two points away from the play-offs and a win on Saturday can put us straight back in there. We are very positive in the camp and we have had a good week's training, so we are looking forward to the game.

"With our new formation we are creating a lot more chances now and we just need to find that killer goal because we will finish off most teams in this league. We are a match for anybody because we are a top team with top players.

"We were beaten by Walsall earlier on in the season, we are a totally different team now, so we need to play our game. We definitely need to turn them over after that game, so we are looking forward to Saturday.

"The Gills supporters really want to see their team win and we don't want to let them down. With the squad that we have we should be looking to push at the top end of the table and that is what we are going to do, that's what is in our heads.

"I love this club and I am playing my best football at Gillingham, if I am honest. I just love playing in front of the fans at Priestfield. It's a great atmosphere here.

"We need a really big push to get in those play-offs, we just need to keep going. We need to go out on Saturday and do our jobs, and hopefully win the game."
